Board Resignation
The economist stated he would step back from public duties after legislative body released his frequent messages with the financier

One-time economic leader Larry Summers is leaving the board at the ChatGPT creator, just several days after a series of emails between him and deceased financier the disgraced billionaire became widely known.

He stated in an announcement that he was "thankful for the chance to have served, excited about the promise of the organization, and eagerly await following their development".

Summers, who formerly headed Harvard University, announced on recently that he would be stepping back from public responsibilities due to his relationship with Epstein.

Email Communications

The newly public messages revealed that Summers corresponded with Jeffrey Epstein until the 24 hours preceding the financier's 2019 apprehension for alleged trafficking of minors.

In a separate statement, the technology organization said it accepted his choice to resign.

"We acknowledge his many contributions and the insight he brought to the Board," the company stated.

Legislative Background

This announcement arrives after the entire Congress of the US legislature voted on Tuesday to pass a legislation that would require the Department of Justice to release its records on Epstein.

The bill will afterward move to the office of the White House for approval. The President has stated he intends to sign the measure, after changing his position on the issue following objections from his supporters.

Correspondence Findings

A group of Epstein-connected correspondence disclosed by the Congressional committee recently included several high-profile figures in the billionaire's former circle, without indicating any criminal activity by those people.

The communications indicated that Summers and Epstein often met for meals, with he often trying to link Summers to notable international personalities.

Individual Statement

After the messages were made available with the public, the former official stated he accepted "full responsibility for my ill-advised judgment to continue corresponding with Mr Epstein".

He added that he hoped "to restore confidence and fix connections with the people closest to me".

Career Background

Summers held leadership roles under two Democratic presidents; serving as economic leader under the former president, and as head of the National Economic Council under Barack Obama.

He headed Harvard from 2001 to 2006 and remains a academic there. When declaring his withdrawal from public duties previously on this week, he said he would persist with his educational duties.

Other Impacts

Following the economist's declaration on earlier this week, the Washington think tank, a liberal policy institute in DC where the professor was a prominent member, confirmed that the economist was no longer affiliated with the organization.

He entered the directorate of the technology firm, which creates the AI chatbot, in the previous year - following a failed attempt to replace its CEO the company leader.
