News has broken that fan-favorite actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are returning to their iconic characters in the newest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The film is currently in production.
A Major Return to Panem
Lawrence and Hutcherson will once again portray Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the characters they made famous. Speculation suggests their roles will take the form of a future-set scene, given that the main film series concluded with their characters settled into family life.
This signifies the sixth film in the global Hunger Games franchise.
Exploring the New Story
Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted from a 2025 novel by author Suzanne Collins. It serves as the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Once again is Francis Lawrence, who directed most of the previous films in the series.
The Plot and New Cast
The film's story are set in the years leading up to the first Hunger Games, focusing on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, later known as Katniss's mentor, is portrayed as a tribute in the deadly 50th Hunger Games.
The supporting roles feature several prominent actors in pivotal roles:
- Jesse Plemons will portray Plutarch Heavensbee.
- Ralph Fiennes takes on the part of a younger version of the menacing President Snow.
